Introduction

Interestingly enough, ConVal Technology is a company that was born out of its own necessity. We, like many of you, have demanded more from the internet than can be delivered by Satellite and dial-up. We, perhaps like you, have been waiting patiently for a telco or cable company to step in and solve this problem. For us, cable and DSL are not coming any time soon. For these reasons, we pursued bringing our own dedicated leased circuits to the internet to us to solve our own needs! Sadly, when the "numbers don't make sense", Telephone and Cable companies all too often leave rural areas behind. Such was the case here in rural Hancock New Hampshire.

Our mission is to provide those left behind with a service that is far superior to Satellite. In fact, because we do not oversell our bandwidth, we believe our customers will have an experience that is better and more consistent than most high-speed DSL and cable internet customers. Our leased-line to consumer ratio is less than 8-to-1. Some dial-up ISP's may go as high as 50:1! Satellite suffers from a different problem. It simply takes time to travel to space and back. The effect of this on your browsing experience is sluggish responses and images that are slow to draw. Working from home is near to impossible for those attempting to use VPN (secured via IPSEC) over Satellite. This is because some internet activities require a lot of chatter back and forth to get things done. On Satellite, we often see round trips taking anywhere from 800 milliseconds to a few seconds. This can be exponential with some types of internet traffic such as IPSEC VPN. By comparison, a leased line may be 50 to 100 milliseconds round trip.

To accomplish our mission, we have teamed up with the leader in Wireless Broadband equipment - Proxim. Subscribers may reach throughput rates to our local network as high as 40 times that of a dedicated T1 line or roughly 1,070 times that of a 56k dialup connection. Actual bandwidth to the internet varies by package.
